The concept of the „Blue Desert” was developed by Eleonora Bourmistrov and presented in her first “Blue Desert” exhibition in the Luvre Gallery in Bayreuth 1997.

“BLUE DESERT” 2024 is a continuation and further development of the earlier ideas, in which experimentation with different sands and new techniques takes place. Also the concept of the sculpture-painting has been further explored and developed.
The earlier concept arose from Eleonora Bourmistrov’s fascination with deserts and veiled figures in deserts or in blue spaces that she combined in a new idea of the landscape – Blue Desert – that exists only in the artist’s imagination and has a spiritual connotation.
In the Luvre exhibition 1997 were shown alongside with the blue deserts also veiled figures in desert landscapes or in blue spaces.
In the coming-up exhibition “Masked & Veiled”, the concept of the “Veiling” will be presented in a new light.
In her earlier Blue Desert paintings Eleonora Bourmistrov used alongside with sand and acrylic also pigments. As the latter proved to be harmful to health by inhalation of the fine dust particles as well containing heavy metals, the artist gave up the use of pigments, instead she started developing special techniques and experimenting with sand and paint. This also applies to her other desert-paintings.
Other innovation ideas by the artist: the quadratic form of the paintings and a view from a bird’s-eye perspective, to underline the endlessness and detachment of such kind of landscape. She was inspired in that during her flights over deserts and semi-deserts in Australian outback. The method of the perspective change and the form of quadrat are also used by the artist in her other landscape sculpture-paintings, where the technique of simulation of the natural tectonic processes has been perfected over the years.
