A new project “MASKED & VEILED”, in the SENDLINGER KULTURSCHMIEDE, Munich, 4.12.2026 – 14.01.2027, OPENING 3.12.2026
The topic of ‘Masked & Veiled’ is complex and multi-layered…. It explores and interprets the ideas of concealing and making opaque, both symbolically / metaphorically and socio-culturally, in relation to concepts of freedom, identity, differentiation / exclusion, otherness / alienation / being foreign, but also protection and belonging. The topic can be interpreted both figuratively / concretely – in terms of masked, veiled persons, objects, etc. – as well as in connection with abstract concepts – in terms of masked, veiled, opaque, hidden ideas, motives, thoughts, events, occurrences, situations, etc.
The group exhibition will present visual, as well as political, philosophical, and contemporary approaches to the theme of veiling and masking through various media, ranging from painting and photography to installation, object, and video art. In addition, a collateral program with lectures, discussions, and videos is planned, including films and videos by an artist from London.
The project was initiated by Eleonora Bourmistrov. She is also the organizer and contact person for the exhibition.
